Dulwich Park is a 29 acre park with a boating lake, cafe, horse riding, cycle
hire, play area and sports pitches and tennis courts.
It is in
the London Borough of Southwark, a few miles north of Croydon. The park has
been established for over 100 years.
There are entrances around the park, the main car park is off the College
Road (SE21 7BG) half way up the east side of the park, there is
no road parking on the
south side of the park and all the access gates were closed when we visited.
All the railway stations are a fair walk.
There is a large and busy
cafe in the park, and boats can be hired on the lake.
A wide carriage drive circles the park which is now mostly traffic free, with
a sandy horse riding track on the inside used by Dulwich Riding
School which
is at one of the park gates with 20 horse and ponies.
7th April 2012, a channel into the lake, which has lots of barriers to keep water plants from spreading to much.
The main lake with the island in the distance, not many water birds, but a few heading our way for food.
The Boardwalk walk way across the corner of the lake, with "don't feed the
ducks" signs, however the Mallards here were actually very
hungry.
Many more Mallards arrive looking for food. Very few geese on the lake.
The other side of the Boardwalk, lots more barriers in the water.
The full length of the Boardwalk.
Very hard to get close to the water at Dulwich Park, so not easy to feed the
wildlife, although there are holes on the fence for ducks to
get through.
So many of the ducks come out of the water to be fed, unfortunately meaning
they have to fight with pigeons for food. Boats can be
hired here on
the lake.
A view from the opposite side of the lake with the boat hire shed in the distance, a Coot and Mallards looking for food.
A well designed stream through well tended planting, couple of ducks in the distance.
The West Lawns and large cafe in the distance.
West Lawns again, with sports pitches and tennis courts in the distance, separated by the Carriage Drive.
