13th February 2021, don't often get ice on the pond in recent years, rarely cold enough for long enough.
Nice icicles from the pond filter outlet, only one pump running during the winter.
18th February 2021, ice did not last long, first duck visit of the season, here almost every day since, but mostly just to feed.
20th February 2021, same ducks as last year, friendly, waiting for breakfast.
And quite happy to eat bird seed from the lawn. Normally get their own at dusk otherwise the pigeons eat it all.
2nd March 2021, waiting for breakfast again, often in the middle of the lawn so someone sees them from house.
14th April 2021, still coming back for food most days.
Eating bread in the pond.
2nd May 2021, 7pm back for evening meal, bird seed on the grass.
5th May 2021, when she is sitting on a nest elsewhere, she will come back on her down for half an hour to feed.
Longer days and lots of sun means the water lillies are growing well.
9th May 2021 10:30am, unusual to see the ducks in mid morning, but the girl is now tolerating being followed by two boys.
Although one boy is kept away by the other.
15th May 2021, batchelor group of three boys here for breakfast, swim around the island following each other.,
The three boys again.
15th May 2021, hundreds of tadpoles in the pond, a mix of frogs and toads, can really tell from the spawn and there was lots of each.
29th June 2021, the males are losing their grey feathers for the summer, ready to grow a new coat.
Just two boys today, they continued visiting for a few more days for food, then disappeared in early July.
11th October 2021 - Would not normally expect to see ducks in the pond after
July, they really only come here to mate. But something
different
happens this year, in late September the boys resume visiting the pond for food,
usually only here for 10 minutes or so,
sometimes wait to be fed.
3rd November 2021, the boys are still visiting for food, nearly always two
boys, one day only saw one female and three boys, but
never again.
5th November 2021, three foxes in the garden while the ducks wait for food on the pond.
28th November 2021, morning, the ducks do like bird seed, but it's a battle against the pigeons as to who gets to it first.
They are cautious eating on the grass, with the foxes around.
